MEDICAL MATTERS – If your child is feeling unwell, (maybe he/she has vomited during the night or has a high fever), please do not send them him/her to school.
A member of the school community has been in contact with Rubella (German Measles). Should you be an expectant mother who has not been inoculated, please be aware that while Rubella is not prevalent, there are still incidences of this. You can never be too careful.

FESTIVAL OF LIGHT – The Festival of Light will be held on the 8th of December. The drumming band and classes are busily preparing for what is hoped will become an annual event. The Parents’ Association have a number of activities planned for the night. Please mark this in your diary and support this event.

GREEN SCHOOLS – We expect to have a Green schools inspection shortly. Please, please ensure that your child has a proper tuber ware lunchbox. Also it would be helpful if you could wrap his/her sandwich in tissue paper rather than tinfoil etc, as the tissue may be composted. Likewise please ensure your child has a proper reusable bottle or container for his/her drink.

CROSS COUNTRY – In conjunction with St. John the Evangelist School we are organising a cross country meeting on the 2nd December. All the primary schools in Lucan have been invited. We will shortly pick teams for this event.

HEAD LICE – is a regular occurrence in schools. Please continue to check for any signs and do report it to the school if you spot anything.

Festival of Light - 8th December 2010

Dear Parents

On Wednesday the 8th December Adamstown Castle and Esker Educate Together will be hosting this year’s Festivals of Light Celebration. The following Educate Together schools shall be participating in this event Adamstown Castle, Esker, Lucan, Lucan East and Griffeen.

Each school shall do a short performance on the night and in addition to this they shall be creating a themed display about one of the following festivals of light; Christmas, Diwali, Hannukah, Eid or Secular Faiths. These displays shall be on view throughout the school for all parents and visitors who attend.

A raffle will be held on the night. A number of businesses in the locality have kindly donated a selection of excellent prizes. If any parent is willing to sell raffle tickets we would be very appreciative of your assistance. Tickets will be available, on the night at the entrance to the school. Raffle prizes shall also be on display.

A tuck shop shall also run on the night, selling sweets, crisps, drinks etc. We would like if parents would bake and donate suitable snacks to go on sale in our tuck shop.

As five schools shall be attending this event we expect a large volume of traffic, if you live locally we would appreciate if you could walk or cycle.

If you are interested in volunteering for this event please fill in the attached slip with your name and contact details and return it to your child’s class teacher.

We look forward to seeing you on the night.

Adamstown Road Race – Over €3000 was raised by the schools. This money will go to towards the maintenance of the new football and soccer pitches. I would sincerely like to thank all the staff and parents who volunteered their time on a wet and blustery day for the benefit of our school and local community.

Science Week – This week is Science week and the theme being explored is ‘Our Place in Space’. The children have had great fun learning about the solar system. We have a space trail in the school where parents and children can learn more about the planets. Maoliosa’s 3rd and 4th class helped Dermot and Joanna’s Junior Infant class with a food tasting experiment, which all enjoyed.

Astronomy Ireland gave all the classes a lively and interactive presentation about our Solar system. There will also be a space based table quiz for 1sr-6th class on Friday afternoon which we’re sure will be fun! Special thanks to Joanna for all her work on this.

FAI – This morning the FAI have organised a football blitz for our 3rd and 4th classes. The FAI are very much involved in organising local clubs and are currently involved in setting up a club in the Adamstown/Hanstead and Finnstown area. They will soon be organising after school classes, more later!

Gaelic Football – Lucan Sarsfield are currently coaching 1st and 2nd classes Wednesdays. I would like to thank Kevin O’Reilly from Lucan Sarsfield for getting involved. I would also like to sincerely thank Claire Dowdall and the Adamstown GAA for all the effort and time that they have given the school over the past few years.
Educate Together Membership – We will shortly be collecting €10 to pay our annual Educate Together membership.

Happy EID – Happy EID to all those who will be celebrating this week.
Parent/Teacher Meetings – the Parent/Teacher meetings will be taking place next Tuesday 23rd November and Thursday 25th November. The class teachers will be sending home appointment times for you and your child in the coming days. In line with our custody policy, should you be in a situation where you have now separated from your partner, we will facilitate separate meetings if you so wish. Please contact your class teacher.
